What is the best method for discouraging sparrows from building nests?

We have a roll-up awning with a protective overhang on the rear of our house. Sparrows love to build nests under the overhang, causing an unimaginable mess with their defecation.

Outside of murdering the poor little things, you can try putting up little rubber snakes where they nest. Snakes are their natural predator, and they will not nest if they see them hanging around. You may need to move them around so that the birds don’t realize they aren’t alive, but will build elsewhere soon enough. I have had good luck by moving the snakes one or two times a day.

Ya you can use rubber snakes, and one other thing is a plastic fake owl.
