you’ll have to use something like a wire brush, not too sharp, to get off the paint that may be peeling. Use a metal primer, and then paint that is made for metal. Will be doing this to my house soon too..
Several years ago, I had my aluminum siding, trim, eaves (etc.) painted. The guys painted the whole thing with a sprayer. It’s held up just fine. Make sure you clean the surface, and use the correct paint (for aluminum).
