Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/ – Awnings: Electric and Manual Awnings
The mounting interest in garden awnings has sparked a new market for awnings. These awnings can be purchased at a fair price and can be self installed by any person with a knowledge of home improvement. The scope of awnings can, however, stifle first time buyers. Hopefully this will help those new to the market looking for more information.
The simplest answer is to look into a manual awning. These awnings make use of retractable arms and a winding handle. The awnings can be projected to the desired level. Manual awnings are suitable for most homes and are highly cost effective. Once you have mounted the brackets to the wall, the awning can be lifted onto them. More than one person will be required to lift the awning considering awnings can be quite weighty. The awning is then complete and ready for use.
Electric awnings are very similar but require a little knowledge of wiring in order to connect the awning motor to a power source. The awning still needs to be lifted onto the pre-fitted brackets, however, the process of connecting the motor to a mains will make extra work. The benefit of the extra work is visible when you can make use of the mains switch rather than the winding handle. Whilst slightly more expensive, electric awnings are much more convenient.
The awning, once installed, should be durable enough to last for several years. Taking good care to keep the awning out of the rain and excessive wind will of course prolong the lifespan of the item. The awning fabric, will survive light rain and wind but will deteriorate if not tended to when necessary. Waterproof awning covers are obtainable for protection during the nastiest weather whilst replacement fabrics are also an option should the existing fabric fall victim to foul weather.
Most suppliers sell replacement parts for when repair is in order. All required operational parts should also be available including wind, sun and rain sensors, alongside a range of spare awning covers should you choose to change the colour of your awning.
